The St. Charles County community is mourning the loss of two best friends, 24-year-old Brett Hill and 23-year-old Cooper Mills.

The two were killed Friday night when Brett lost control of his SUV, veering off the side of St. Peters Parkway near Park Ashwood Drive and overturned, troopers said. Neither was wearing a seat belt.

“They like to say that they were each other’s ride or die,” Cooper’s aunt, Teri Mills, said.

Cooper and Brett attended the same middle and high schools and even worked for the same company. Their families say they did everything together – with a smile.

“Everybody needs to know that this was a tragic accident and these two boys were lost way too soon, but the impact that they made on everybody will last forever,” Mills said.

Their impact is visible near the crash site, where loved ones left crosses inscribed with their names, and a friend’s father planted flowers. Ron Plummer said his son would be a pall bearer at two funerals.

“They should be going to each other’s weddings, not each other’s funerals,” he said.

GoFundMe pages for Hill and Mills have been started to help their families pay for funeral expenses.
