ST. LOUIS — People living in the Winter Garden Senior Apartments near the Central West End won't have to go far to take back their unused drugs. In fact, all they'll have to do is walk to their front door.

The St. Louis division of the Drug Enforcement Agency is teaming up with more than 400 different agencies starting Tuesday, keeping unused and expired drugs off the street by going door to door at the Winter Garden Apartments.

As the opioid crisis continues throughout the country, keeping unnecessary drugs out of your house can help in saving lives. According to the DEA, a majority of abused narcotics and opioids come from people taking unused or forgotten drugs from the family medicine cabinet.

The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day runs Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. You can drop off your unwanted medications at most police stations, or by visiting disposemymeds.org.
