Blues bring veteran forwards Brouwer, McGinn in on professional tryouts

With injuries testing their depth, the Blues brought in some experience on Monday. And there's a familiar face back in St. Louis.

ST. LOUIS — The Blues have brought in two veteran forwards Monday on professional tryouts, after the club's depth was tested by injuries in recent weeks.

Troy Brouwer and Jamie McGinn will join the club this week on tryouts. McGinn practiced with the team on Monday, and Brouwer is expected to start practicing on Tuesday.

The two will practice and be with the team for 10 days before a decision will be made on whether the Blues extend them a contract or not. Neither can play in a game while on a tryout.

The Blues were riding a bit thin with their forwards after significant injuries to Vladimir Tarasenko and Alex Steen, and the trade of Robby Fabbri to Detroit.

Forward Jacob de la Rose was acquired in that Fabbri trade, and now the Blues will have some options with Brouwer and McGinn coming in for a tryout.

The team also has upstart young players like Jordan Kyrou, Klim Kostin, Nathan Walker and Jordan Nolan available for call up from the AHL if they so choose.

Troy Brouwer of course is not new to St. Louis.

After being acquired by the Blues in the T.J. Oshie trade, Brouwer played one season with St. Louis in 2015-2016 where he scored 18 goals, notched 21 assists and helped the club to the Western Conference Finals against San Jose.

Brouwer also owns one of the most famous goals in Blues history, with this clutch third period score against the Blackhawks in Game 7 of the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The 34-year-old Brouwer has 181 goals and 181 assists in 13 years in the NHL.

McGinn broke into the NHL in 2008 with San Jose, and has played 11 years with the Sharks, Avalanche, Sabres, Ducks, Coyotes and Panthers. The 31-year-old has 117 goals and 103 assists in his career.
