For more than 50 years, KSDK NewsChannel 5 has been the broadcast leader in St. Louis:

• 1st on air in 1947
• 1st in color in 1956
• 1st in stereo in 1984
• 1st to offer HDTV programming on cable in 2003
• 1st local weather channel with Weather Plus in 2005

On February 6, 2006 at 10:00 p.m. KSDK took another step paving the way in the future of television by becoming the first local station in St. Louis to broadcast our local news and Show Me St. Louis in HDTV.

HDTV101 videoAt NewsChannel 5, being St. Louis’ news leader, "Where the News Comes First” is more than just our slogan. Being first means we are the market’s leader, on the cutting edge, and broadcasting in HDTV is another opportunity to provide leadership to St. Louis.

HDTV is turbo-charged television, yielding clearer pictures, better sound and more viewing excitement than traditional analog television. HDTV offers a picture free of “ghosts,” “snow” or interference. It delivers a sharper image due to the increased number of pixels the digital signal puts on the screen. HDTV has the highest television resolution available to consumers. It supports 5.1 channels of Dolby Digital CD-quality surround sound.
