KSDK -- 12 Missouri High schools have one or more students in last year's graduating class with top ACT scores.

Only 428 of the more than 1.4 million 2008 graduates nationally who took the ACT college admissions and placement exam scored a perfect 36.

In Missouri, 13 high school graduates out of more than 47,000 tested in the class of 2008 earned a top score.

The ACT, a curriculum-based achievement test, consists of tests in English, mathematics, reading and science. Each test is scored on a scale of 1-36, and a student's composite score is the average of the four test scores. The average composite score for the national high school graduating class of 2008 was 21.1. Some students also take ACT's optional Writing Test, but the score for that test is reported separately and is not included in the ACT composite score. ACT scores are accepted by all major U.S. colleges and universities.

The schools with top scoring students were:

Fox Senior High School, Arnold

Jackson High School, Jackson

Kirksville Senior High School, Kirksville

Ladue Horton Watkins High School, Saint Louis

Lindbergh High School, Saint Louis

Notre Dame Regional High School, Cape Girardeau

Parkway Central High School, Chesterfield

Pattonville High School, Maryland Heights

Saint Louis University High School, Saint Louis

Visitation Academy, Saint Louis

Warrensburg High School, Warrensburg

Westminster Christian Academy, Saint Louis
