KSDK -- With new numbers showing a continued increase in the population in Downtown St. Louis, there are more and more service businesses opening up downtown.

One new clinic is set to open today at 916 Olive Street.

Helping to fuel the opening are fresh 2008 numbers from the Partnership for Downtown St. Louis showing a six percent surge in the downtown St. Louis population in 2008, downtown is now approaching 12,000 residents.

The new clinic is called Downtown Urgent Care.

The business' owner Sonny Saggar, MD, is also an Emergency Room Doctor at St. Luke's Hospital in Chesterfield.

Saggar's decided to invest his own money, and without any grants he's looking to fill a void in the downtown market.

His new business features six exam rooms, a staff of four emergency room doctors, and a pharmacy, as well as a lab, a state of the art digital x-ray machine, and even an ambulance bay out front, as the city has agreed to take down 3 parking meters.

And Downtown Urgent Care, we should point out, is located not far from where a new chain grocery store is set to open, and just blocks from where a new bookstore, fitness centers, and an animal hospital have all just recently opened their doors as well.
