Newschannel 5 Sports has learned the Cardinals are very close to moving out of the Brian Fuentes sweepstakes.
A source told Frank Cusumano that the Cardinals felt they made an aggressive offer, and because of this long lull, are turning the page but not shutting the door on signing the 33 year old closer.
They may use that money on a starting pitcher depending on what happens with Chris Carpenter.
