ST. LOUIS — St. Louis firefighters battled an intense fire in north city early Wednesday morning.

The fire started in the two-story house at about 1:30 a.m. near West Florissant and Hiller Place, that’s on the edge of the North Pointe and Walnut Park West neighborhoods.

Firefighters reported seeing flames shooting through the roof when they arrived.

No one was inside and the home was vacant, the fire department reported. However, crews had to evacuate several neighbors while they worked to get the fire under control.

Crews needed to use three aerial ladders to help put out the fire.
