Former Missouri Democratic fundraiser accused of firing at gas station, restaurant

A former fundraiser for the Missouri Democratic Party fired shots at employees of two different St. Louis locations earlier this week.

ST. LOUIS — A one-time campaigner for the statewide Missouri Democratic Party showed a much different side late Tuesday night.

Around 11:30 p.m., charging documents said Matthew Lieberman, a former fundraiser for the Missouri party, purchased a pack of cigarettes at the BP gas station at Clayton and Skinker in St. Louis city. He allegedly flipped off the attendant, then fired a shot at him from his car. The bullet hit the gas station but missed the employee.

Later that night, Lieberman was accused of firing more shots at a Jack in the Box building on Hampton near Interstate 64. While at the restaurant, he demanded food even though the store was closed for the night. Witnesses near the scene turned over pictures of Lieberman in his car to police.

Court documents stated a gun was later found in his car when he was arrested.

Police said Lieberman used racial epithets towards the employees of both locations, which led police to believe the crimes were motivated by race.

This is a developing story.
