ST. LOUIS – A popular St. Louis bakery announced its closing two of its stores to focus more on an online delivery service.

McArthur’s Bakery has been serving the St. Louis area since 1956. The bakery said they’re closing two stores to better service their customers in a more convenient way.

“Delivery and online ordering is very convenient to our customers, and we want to be the first bakery to deliver to homes throughout the St. Louis region,” said Scott Rinaberger, owner of McArthur’s Bakery. “This service allows us to immediately serve customers in St. Charles County, Edwardsville, and other communities without the need for new locations.”

The new strategy allows McArthur’s Bakery to become everyone’s neighborhood bakery instead of a select group of neighborhoods.

“We continue seeing more facets of business becoming more readily available online, especially the food and grocery industry,” Rinaberger continued. “In an effort to remain ahead of the curve and serve our customers to the best of our ability, we need to reallocate some of our resources to be successful in our new strategy.”

McArthur’s Bakery will continue to restructure its brick and mortar locations with the rollout of the new online ordering system with the closure of their Kirkwood and Chesterfield Valley locations by the end of the business day on Jan. 31.

“We were at a decision point with the leases and decided this was the appropriate time to continue forward with our delivery model. Both locations are outstanding and will be successful for new food concepts in the near future,” Rinaberger said. “It was just an opportunity for us to push forward in a direction that will allow McArthur’s to be successful for another 60 years.”

Rinaberger also expressed gratitude for McArthur’s loyal customer base.

“We are always thankful for the amount of love and loyalty we received from our customers since the day we opened our doors in these locations,” he said. “We are not leaving the community we have come to love; we are just serving it in a different way. McArthur’s truly looks forward to becoming your in-home baker and serve you in the future through home delivery or at our Lemay Ferry location!”
