Misfit Toys Car Club raises money for free autism service center

They will have a fundraiser on June 30 at Rascals Raceway Autocross from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and two other races in Chesterfield on August 5 and September 7.

ST. LOUIS — Misfit Toys Car Club is driven to make a difference for people with autism.

The O'Fallon, Missouri, car club is raising money to open a free autism services center in St. Charles County. They want to end the myths regarding Autism and help people really understand the neurological disorder.

To achieve thier goal, they are working with an international non-profit called Fighting for Autism. The organization raises awareness for Autism through MMA fighting, boxing and other action-filled activities.

Now, Misfit Toys is adding motorsports to that list with three upcoming fundraisers.

Ryan DeClue, the president of Misfit Toys Car Club, is excited to include motorsports and automotive enthusiasts in an effort to spread awareness about Autism. DeClue said Fighting for Autism opens up free service centers for people with Autism all over the world, and DeClue hopes they can do something similar.

The cause is personal for DeClue, who said he's working hard to open the center in honor of his son, Logan. Logan, 12, was unable to speak until several years ago.

DeClue said he hopes the center will help other children like Logan interact with the world and discover things they love by offering speech and occupational therapy. DeClue said there are a number of doctors who said they will volunteer to help families get these services.

They will have a fundraiser on June 30 at Rascals Raceway Autocross from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and two other races in Chesterfield on August 5 and September 2.

There is a $55 entrance fee, and all the proceeds will go to opening the center. Drivers at any skill levels with all kinds of cars are encouraged to sign up to race and it is free for spectators.

Parents and kids can also take part in ride-along with a professional driver for free.
