North St. Louis couple loses dogs in house fire

"How do you come home and not hear the barking or when they want to lick your hands or behind your ear? How do you not get that anymore?"

ST. LOUIS – A final goodbye for a couple's most precious belongings.

As flames raced through a Vinita Park home overnight Tuesday, the fire destroyed nearly everything inside.

And once the smoke settled, the real tragedy surfaced. A couple lost their two dogs, Koko and Riko.

"How do you come home and not hear the barking or when they want to lick your hands or behind

your ear? How do you not get that anymore?" asked Antionette Williams, who had been living in her Garfield Avenue home for about two years.

Williams told 5 On Your Side that the only thing plugged in at the time of the fire was a coffee maker.

Williams buried her dogs in their favorite place, her backyard, underneath a rose bush.

"Every time a rose bloom, that's going to be Riko smiling and this one is Koko smiling," Williams said.
