The remains found near a subdivision lake in north St. Louis County Sunday were identified as bones of an infant by St. Louis County Police Tuesday.
St. Louis County police are investigating human remains found Saturday night near Behlman Lake Court in north St. Louis County.
“I’ve been here 13 years and I’ve never seen anything like this before,” said resident Ralph Saint-Louis.
Saint-Louis lives in the Behlmann Farms subdivision near Lindbergh Blvd. and Old Jamestown Road near Florissant.
It was the sight of a brutal discovery over the weekend that other residents say is out of step with the quiet subdivision.
“They’re all nervous right now. Everybody is kind of watching out and stuff like that now,” said resident Ron Taylor.
According to St. Louis County Police, fishermen located what appeared to be human remains around 9:15 p.m. Saturday while fishing in a residential lake.
They immediately alerted authorities, according to police.
“Next thing I knew I saw a police car. Then there was another police car. And one more after that. I knew something was wrong,” Taylor recalled.
So far, the investigation has revealed the remains to be that of an unidentified infant.
But authorities haven’t determined an age or gender. Also unclear is how the child might have ended up in the water.
It’s led to a lot of unanswered questions and concern for those who live around the lake.
“The weirdest part is they found it, but no one knows how long it could have been there,” Saint-Louis said.
Saint-Louis said until neighbors know more, everyone is being extra cautious and practicing a heightened sense of awareness.
“Let’s make sure we watch out for the kids and make sure we watch out for everybody in the neighborhood,” he said.
