School lunch debt eliminated after generous gift

A Jefferson County group donated $500 to a local elementary school to clear its student lunch debt

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. – A man named Kurt Warner (no, not the football player) and the Arnold-Imperial Optimist Club are on a mission to pay down school lunch debt in the Fox C-6 and Windsor C-1 school districts.

"We wanted to do something that would have an instant impact on kids," Warner said.

This week, the Optimist Club eliminated the lunch debt at Meramec Heights Elementary in Arnold. The school had about $500 in lunch debt.

"It's absolutely huge. It's such a blessing to these families and students," said Meramec Heights Principal Dr. Dustin Bain.

The Arnold-Imperial Optimist Club is in the process of raising money to eliminate another school's debt. It's hoping to raise a $1,000. The club is working with local businesses and has setup a GoFundMe page.
