Woman burned in apartment fire near The Grove

Firefighters responded to a fire on Vandeventer. The call originally came in for a trash fire, but when firefighters arrived, they found the building fully engulfed

ST. LOUIS — Emergency crews rushed a person from the scene of a fire Wednesday morning near The Grove.

Firefighters responded to a fire at 1441 Vandeventer at 9:07 a.m. The call originally came in for a trash fire, but when firefighters arrived, they found the building fully engulfed.

Crews were able to quickly put out the flames.

While working the scene, firefighters found a woman inside an apartment. She wasn’t able to walk, but crews were able to get her out of the apartment.

The view from Sky5 showed firefighters giving her oxygen as they placed her in an ambulance. She was taken to a nearby hospital for burns and breathing in smoke.

The building part-residential with apartments but also has commercial space.

Officials are working to determine what started the fire.
