Firefighters battle massive fire at Montgomery County scrap yard

Those in the line of smoke were urged to shelter in place, close all doors and windows and turn off ventilation.

JONESBURG, Mo. — Several local fire departments are battling a fire at a scrap yard in Montgomery County, Missouri.

According to the Warren County Sheriff's Department, the multi-alarm fire broke out Friday morning at a scrap yard located on East Boonslick Road in Jonesburg, on the south side of Interstate 70.  The Warren County Sheriff's Department is assisting with the fire.

The inferno produced a large, black cloud of smoke that was traveling southeast from the site.

Although the smoke is a low-level hazard, the sheriff's department urged those in the line of the smoke to shelter in place for the next several hours. Residents should close all doors and windows and turn off ventilation.
