World War II veteran honored with Quilt of Valor award

The award is given to select veterans across the country who have been touched by the effects of war.

ST. LOUIS – A special honor for a 104-year-old who served in World War II.

Elaine Ooley enlisted in the army in 1942 in the Women's Air Corps division.

She served as an aircraft dispatcher at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico from 1943 until the end of the war.

Saturday, she was presented with the Quilts of Valor award.

The award is given to select veterans across the country who have been touched by the effects of war.

"It means everything to me, because it represents a lot of love from my family. it represents what I believe, and it’s a good reminder that our military is very important to our country,” Ooley said.

For decades, Elaine also volunteered for the American Legion and the St. Louis Veteran's Home.
