Nelly’s rape case dropped by prosecutors

ST. LOUIS – A rape case against St. Louis rapper Nelly has been dropped after prosecutors say the accuser refuses to cooperate.

"While we have reviewed the existing investigative material, without the assistance of the complainant, this office is unable to proceed or fully assess the merits of the case," the prosecutor's office said in a statement to 5 On Your Side’s sister station, KING 5, on Thursday.

In October, after Nelly, whose real name is Cornell Haynes, performed at the White River Amphitheater in Auburn, Washington, a woman called 911, claiming she was sexually assaulted on a tour bus in a Walmart parking lot. Nelly was arrested, booked and released within an hour of the incident.
