Christine Byers is a multi-skilled journalist and digital columnist for 5 On Your Side in St. Louis, Missouri.

A native of Chicago, Illinois, Christine moved to St. Louis in 2006 when she took a job with the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. From 2009-2019, Christine was a beat reporter for the paper, covering St. Louis city and county crime, courts, and police.

She appeared destined for a career as a reporter at an early age. Her mom says her first word was, “Why?” and she never stopped asking questions. She's passionate about sharing the answers she finds with the public.

Christine is known for breaking stories in St. Louis. Some of the most memorable stories of her career include reuniting a family with the long-lost daughter of a soldier after his remains were found in Korea, interviewing Jason Stockley, an exclusive on Mike Brown’s autopsy, a series of stories on the meth epidemic, and breaking details of the attack at Catholic Supply.

In 2011, Christine co-authored a true-crime book called In Cold Pursuit: My Hunt for Timothy Krajcir with Lt. Paul Echols with the Carbondale Police Department. The book tells the story of Echols’ rise through the ranks from officer to lieutenant, his quest to solve his department’s coldest case, and how it led him to a serial killer.

Christine is a graduate of Bradley University, where she earned a degree in journalism with a minor in Spanish. After graduation, she stayed in Peoria where she worked as a reporter for the Peoria Journal Star. Before making the move to St. Louis, she also worked as a reporter at the Daily Herald in Elgin, Ill. and the Rockford Register Star in Rockford, Ill.

She’s eager to bring the 5 On Your Side audience into a deeper dive into local public safety issues. You can contact Christine at cbyers@ksdk.com and follow her on Facebook and Twitter.
