Mary Thaier is a multi-skilled journalist for “Show Me St. Louis” at 5 On Your Side in St. Louis, Missouri.
A native of St. Louis, Mary discovered her passion for storytelling thanks to a teacher she had at Rockwood Summit High School named Mr. Clay Zigler. She credits her love of capturing community to what she learned in his classroom.
In April 2022, Mary started at 5 On Your Side as an associate producer for “Show Me St. Louis.” She was promoted to on-air talent in September 2023. Before coming to 5 On Your Side, she was an associate producer at Nine PBS, where she worked on long-running local programs like “Living St. Louis” and “Donnybrook.” Mary was also part of a small team that created the program “Teaching in Room 9” in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and school shutdowns.
“I love St. Louis,” said Mary. "It’s my home. Our community and its people are simply the best. We have such a rich culture, and I can’t wait to be out in the community, spotlighting the people, places, and things that make STL what it is.”
Mary received a Bachelor of Film, TV and Video Production degree from Webster University. During her undergraduate studies, she spent a semester in Leiden, Netherlands, and participated in Webster’s Inequality and the Environment research program at the school’s Thailand campus.
