Lent 2024: St. Louis-area restaurants offering fish Friday specials

These local restaurants are offering tasty specials throughout the Lenten season.

ST. LOUIS — Fish Fridays are back in the Lou! Several St. Louis-area businesses are offering seafood specials for Lent, the 40-day observance of fasting and prayer leading up to Easter Sunday.

Brasserie by Niche

The fish sando is back for Lent at Brasserie! The fried fish is served with arugula, house pickles and tartar sauce in a soft brioche bun. Get it with a side of fries for $20.95.

Burger Champ

Fish sandwiches are available on Fridays during Lent at Burger Champ in Maplewood. The classic sandwich option features beer-battered cod, tartar sauce, shredded iceberg lettuce, diced white onion, pickle and American cheese. The spicy version features a sriracha aioli.

Café La Vie

Spend your meatless Fridays at Café La Vie, the restaurant inside Le Meridien St. Louis Clayton Hotel, and enjoy a shrimp po’boy made with cried gulf shrimp and pickled crispy lettuce. It comes with fries and a 16-spice Cajun remoulade for $18.

Gioia's Deli

You don’t have to give up Gioia’s for Lent. The deli with locations on The Hill and in Creve Coeur, Maryland Heights and Valley Park is serving up “The King Cod” every Friday during Lent. The fried cod sandwich is smothered in mac and cheese and Red Hot Riplets and served on toasted garlic cheese bread.

Kimchi Guys

The Korean fried fish sandwich is back at Kimchi Guys, located at Laclede’s Landing, Washington University and Edwardsville. The cod sandwich, in both original and spicy, comes with waffle fries and a drink for $15.75 and is available throughout Lent.

Lion's Choice

The crispy cod sandwich is back at Lion’s Choice. Available every Friday during Lent at the St. Louis-based fast-food chain, the sandwich features lightly breaded cod, Swiss cheese and a touch of tartar sauce on a sesame bun. Get the sandwich alone for $5.99 or as a meal with fries and a drink for $9.69.

Mission Taco Joint

Mission Taco is serving the new “What a Jerk Salmon” taco through Sunday, March 31. The tacos are $3.95 and are made with a Jamaican jerk rubbed salmon filet grilled in a banana leaf along with grilled pineapple Pico de Gallo, shredded lettuce, habañero aioli, and citrus pickled onions served in a flour tortilla.

Pit Stop

Located on The Hill, Pit Stop has an entire menu of Lenten specials. Served every Friday during Lent, the meatless specials include:

  • Lobster and shrimp toasted ravioli with a lemon caper sauce.
  • Crab-encrusted baked cod with roasted crushed new potatoes and creamy cheddar spinach.
  • Fish and chips with roasted-cord-and-Provel hush puppies.
  • Cajun shrimp with lobster macaroni and cheese.
  • House-made, New England-style clam chowder.

Rockwell Beer Company

Rockwell Beer Co. is bringing back its seasonal Fish Fry lager for Lent. The light American lager comes in at 3.5% ABV and is described by the brewery as being “dry and delicately floral, without being fussy.”

Salt + Smoke BBQ

Every Friday through March 29, Salt + Smoke is offering a special fish sandwich featuring a beer-battered haddock fillet, creamy coleslaw and a house remoulade with pickles and one side for $14.99. It’s available at all locations.

San Jose Mexican Restaurant

San Jose Mexican Restaurant, with locations in Crestwood, Ellisville and Webster Groves, has multiple Lent specials, including ceviche, seafood enchiladas, shrimp nachos, shrimp cocktails and more.

SqWires Restaurant & Market

Located in Lafayette Square, SqWires is serving up fish fry plates Fridays during Lent (Feb. 22 through March 22). The plate features fried cod, baked cod and shrimp; whipped potatoes; sautéed green beans; hush puppies; creamy slaw; cookies; and pie. Some side and dessert options may change weekly. The large plate is $17, and the small plate is $13.

Winslow's Table

Available for lunch and dinner throughout Lent, Winslow’s Table in University City is bringing back its famous fried fish sandwich. Featuring pickled ramp tartar sauce, American cheese and a brioche bun, the sandwich is available daily while supplies last.
