Former church turned bed and breakfast open for business in Clifton Heights

Renovations to turn an old church into a bed and breakfast are complete.

St. Louis, MO — When you step into Dan and Lisa Macheca's home, you can expect them to serve you a delicious breakfast in a divine setting.

Lisa Macheca said, "It's been a Methodist church until 2004 when we bought it."

Dan and Lisa moved from a home in Webster Groves to a church in the Clifton Heights neighborhood to be exact, with the goal of renovating it. Whenever they told people what they were doing, they got same reaction.

Lisa said, "They thought we were nuts. Although they probably still do."

The Macheca's even raised their kids here while they were in high school and college before gutting it down to the brick.

"They loved it, they thought it was amazing to live in an old church," she said.

The Macheca's had a plan, to open a bed and breakfast in the former church.

"Having hospitality in my background, I thought it would be very fun to live out my golden years being an innkeeper," she said.

And after 14 years of hard work, they did it. Transforming all 12,000 square feet and three stories into a magnificent place to spend the night called the Clifton Heights Inn.

"We serve a gourmet breakfast every morning. Always starts out with fresh course of fruit, eggs, two sides, special potatoes. It's a secret so we won't give out the recipe," she said.

One thing is for sure, this place wont stay a secret for long.

"I was just blown away the minute I came in," said a guest.

Clifton Heights Inn is a St. Louis-themed bed and breakfast with rooms designed to impress. You'll find a room named after The Hill, a room named after The Riverfront and a room named after the World's Fair.

"Which is largest bedroom and has photos of the World's Fair inside," she said.

A more than century old church with a new life.
