Helio Castroneves shares his anticipation ahead of his 24th appearance at the Indianapolis 500

The four-time winner explains why this race will always be special, and his advice to the newcomers.

ST. LOUIS — “I have to be honest every time I come to Indianapolis, it does not matter how many times,” says Helio Castroneves, IndyCar Driver. “This is my 24th time I believe, and wow still the excitement and the adrenaline, it is still there.”

It is deemed the Greatest Spectacle in racing! The Indianapolis 500 returns this Sunday for the 108th year.

A crowd of over 350,000 are expected to take the stands at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The race is 500 miles which is over 200 laps on the 2 and a half mile layout. 4 time winner, Helio Castroneves will return for his 24th season.

“It is so funny sometimes you say something and those kids go out there and do the opposite, and it works,” says Castroneves. “I am like come on man my time was not working like that! but you know, this is not a normal race, it is a longer race, normally there are 3 pit stops, this is like double. There are about 6 pit stops. So when you actually drive you feel like the race is about to be over, but it is only halfway. Can’t give up, you still can recoup.”

The Indy 500 will be shown on NBC with pre-race coverage beginning at 11 a.m. ahead of the 12:45 start time. Learn more here.
