Keep yourself and your dog healthy this holiday

Dr. Werber has some information on how a pet can help you this holiday season, and how you can help your pet in return.

We all know that the holiday season can be one of the most stressful times of the year. Luckily, spending some quality time with a four-legged friend can ease the holiday stress, and potentially improve your health! Renowned Veterinarian Dr. Jeff Werber is here to share some tricks on how to keep dogs and ourselves healthy during the holiday season.

Dr. Werber starts by saying there are many benefits to having a pet. First, there is unconditional love and companionship. Pets can also decrease stress and anxiety, lower blood pressure, lower cholesterol, and they get us outside and exercising. Kids benefit from having a pet as well.

To create a healthy and positive routine for your dog, it starts with diet. Look for foods with good sources of protein, specifically meat protein. Grains are also important for dogs as they are a source of energy and intestinal health. Dr. Werber often recommends Iams to his patients.

Around the holidays, make sure to avoid giving holiday foods to your dogs. Also be on the lookout that they don’t get into your holiday decorations. If you want to give your pet a treat, maybe just add a little canned food to their dry food.
