Don't reset the date on your iPhone or iPad to 1970

ATLANTA (WXIA) – An iPhone rumor that showed up last weekend has led some users to set the system date on their devices to 1970 in hopes of finding an Easter egg, only to find out that their phone no longer works at all.

The rumor first showed up on 4Chan and Reddit, and suggested that users could unlock an Easter egg which would display the classic rainbow Apple logo or other classic Apple designs if they reset the date on their phones.

Apple says that if the system date was reset to 1970 on their 64-bit iOS devices, including iPhone 5S or newer, along with some iPad models, users would end up with completely inoperable devices.

Officials with Apple say they are working on a software fix for the problem, but thus far have not come up with a solution.
