Adam Wainwright receives honorary St. Louis award

The Awards will be at the Stifel Theatre on Nov. 18.

ST. LOUIS — Wednesday morning the St. Louis Sports Commission announced Wainwright as the recipient of the 2023 Stan Musial Award for extraordinary character.

The Musial Awards presented by Maryville University celebrates sportsmanship.

Extraordinary! This is how St. Louis' beloved Cardinal legend Adam Wainwright is known. Between his charitable efforts and his elite career in the MLB, Wainwright has made his mark. 

The award is given annually to a exemplify remarkable class, perseverance and overall sportsmanship, according to the Musial Award announcement. 

"Wainwright has always used the power of his celebrity and stature in the game to do good in the world- a lot of good," according to the statement released by Tim Ryan, director of communications. "He has proven to be a selfless teammate, an inspiring philanthropist, and a constant beacon of respect, consistency, and outstanding sportsmanship."

Wainwright spent 17 seasons on the mounds for the St. Louis Cardinals and MLB-record 328 starts with the same catcher. Wainwright is among 122 pitcher who reached 200 career wins. 

Off the field, Wainwright focused his attention on Big League Impact Charity.

The awards ceremony will be on Nov. 18 at the Stifel Theatre.

Tickets for this event start at $10. 

Doors will open at 5:45 p.m. The awards show begins at 7 p.m. 

The show will also air on CBS on Dec. 24.
