BBB warns against Missouri-based rustic furniture company

A southern Missouri-based rustic furniture company has received 209 complaints from the Better Business Bureau for slow-as-a-snail delivery, lack of refunds and overall poor experiences.

MOUNTAIN GROVE, Mo. — The Better Business Bureau warned consumers against a southern Missouri rustic furniture company allegedly accused of failing to deliver orders in a timely fashion.

Rough Country Rustic Furniture, based in Mountain Grove, Mo., has received 209 complaints in the past several months, reports the BBB. The company, which has an "F" rating through the bureau, makes everything from $295 wall art to $1,150 gun concealment shelves.

The company's website lists delivery estimates as varied by product, which ranges from 42-56 days to 84-140 days. The BBB said one Houston, Mo. woman said she inquired about her $1,681 order placed in March on the company's Facebook page, but those comments were soon deleted by the owners of the page.

"The company is able to make at least one Facebook post a day but can't find the time to reply to emails," the woman told BBB.

The woman received her order nearly seven months later in October. However, upon arrival, she noticed the bedroom set was not completed — and that several key components were "missing and on backorder."

Another Missouri woman reported she purchased a bed which was on-sale for 25-percent off, only to later discover the same set was nearly half the price through another retailer. One year later, added the bureau, she has yet to receive her bed.

The woman attempted to receive a refund to no avail. She said the company allegedly sent her a check in the mail, although, after two months of waiting, no refund has yet been issued. Other customers, too, reported the voice mailbox listed on their website is typically at full capacity, and that consumers are left waiting "several days for a response."

Joseph Ross, owner of Rough Country Rustic Furniture, told BBB in October a "series of problems with some employees and contractors" were to blame for the multi-layered issues.

"We are doing everything we can to make this right," said Ross.

Since BBB's initial investigation, 74 additional complaints have been filed against Rough Country Rustic Furniture.
