WASHINGTON — As the IRS launched a new tool to track stimulus checks, people all over the country grew frustrated with errors in the app.
Many people reported they received the same message: 'Payment Status Not Available.'
The IRS explained the “Get My Payment tool is operating at record volumes.”
Nearly 10 million people received an economic impact payment status, but only 1.6 million had provided direct deposit information.
As the new app rolls out and more people receive their stimulus payments, users could have better luck with the tool in the coming week.
However, Get My Payment will not work at all for some people.
People who are not eligible for a payment, haven't filed taxes for 2018 or 2019, or recently filed through the new IRS non-filers tool will not be able to utilize the service.
Americans who get benefits like social security or veterans may experience issues with the app. As the IRS is still working with those agencies to issue payments, that personal information is not available on the app.
The Get My Payment data is updated once a day. Users should not check back frequently, because they could get logged out and unable to utilize the app for the next 24 hours.
Many frustrated users also reported long wait times. The only solution to this is to be patient and stay near their computer. The app automatically refreshes, and will notify the user when ready to grant them access.
