Attempted robbery of St. Louis Starbucks thwarted by workers

While he was frisking customers, some of the workers "were able to subdue and detain" the man, according to police.

ST. LOUIS — A man who tried to rob a Starbucks in St. Louis Sunday afternoon ended up being held by employees until police could arrive.

According to an incident report from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the attempted robbery occurred at about 2:55 at the location at 212 South Grand in Midtown. The report said one of the suspects was still at the store, being subdued by employees, when officers arrived.

Witnesses told police two men entered the store Sunday afternoon and announced a robbery. One of the men struck a worker in the head and demanded cash from the register.

Police said both men then started frisking people in the store looking for valuables. While he was frisking people, some of the employees "were able to subdue and detain" one of the men. The second man was able to run off before police arrived.

The witnesses were able to give police a description of the second suspect, and police found and arrested the second suspect a short time later.

Neither suspect was identified in the incident summary. Police did not say if anyone was injured in the incident.
