Crash hospitalizes 2 in southern Illinois

A driver didn't stop at a red traffic light before the vehicle was struck by another, Illinois State Police said. Here's what troopers know so far.

CAHOKIA HEIGHTS, Ill — Two people were rushed to the hospital after a crash in Cahokia Heights Monday morning, Illinois State Police troopers told 5 On Your Side.

The crash happened near the intersection of Falling Springs and Camp Jackson roads at around 7 a.m., troopers said. 

A 33-year-old East St. Louis resident driving a Ford F150 drove through a red light and hit a 32-year-old woman from St. Louis driving a Dodge Journey. The F150  then hit a traffic signal and overturned.

Both the F150's driver and the Journey's driver were transported to a local hospital with injuries, troopers said. ISP did not share specific details on the severity of either of the drivers' injuries.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing. This article will be updated with the latest information as it is released.
