Innocent driver killed in north St. Louis crash with person fleeing police in a stolen car

Police lost sight of the stolen truck before it slammed into another car, killing the innocent driver.

ST. LOUIS — An innocent driver was hit and killed by a person fleeing police in a stolen car Tuesday evening.

Police said they spotted a stolen pickup truck near the intersection of East Grand and North 20th Street. When they tried to pull the truck over, it sped off.

Police chased the car for a little while but lost sight of it near Natural Bridge and Vandeventer. Less than a mile away, the truck slammed into another car and killed the driver of that car. He's been identified as 48-year-old Harvey Lee.

A juvenile and three adults were inside the stolen truck. They were taken to the hospital.

Police found a gun in the truck, which was reported stolen out of Hazelwood.

The crash is being investigated by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department's accident reconstruction team.
