BERKELEY, Mo. — A St. Louis County man was charged Sunday after police said he shot and killed a woman while driving Saturday night.

Vaughn Spivey was charged Sunday in connection with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the deadly shooting of Ashanti Taylor on Saturday night.

According to charging documents, Taylor was riding in Spivey's car in St. Louis County when they got into an argument. Police said Spivey then pulled out one of his two guns and shot her in the chest.

Police said Spivey then drove past a hospital to get to his home, where he called 911. He would not tell the operator what happened but said he needed an ambulance for Taylor.

Taylor was rushed to the hospital but died from her injuries a short time later.

Police who arrived on the scene found evidence that Taylor was in the passenger seat of Spivey's car when she was shot. They took Spivey into custody.

The charging documents said Spivey waived his Miranda rights and admitted to shooting Taylor. Police said he claimed the shooting was an accident.

Spivey is being held on a $500,000, cash-only bond.
