Police identify man found shot to death inside north St. Louis car

Police identified the victim as 56-year-old Winfred Bowers of Ferguson.

ST. LOUIS — A man was found fatally shot inside a car Monday evening in north St. Louis.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said officers responded at 8:11 p.m. to the shooting in the 5400 block of Harney Avenue in the Walnut Park East neighborhood. 

Officers found a man inside a crashed vehicle with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. 

Police identified the victim as 56-year-old Winfred Bowers of Ferguson.

Homicide investigators were called to the scene. 

A white van was towed from the scene at about 10:15 p.m.

The man's death is the 58th homicide in St. Louis in 2024, according to 5 On Your Side data.
