Police on scene of double shooting in St. Louis’ Lewis Place neighborhood

Police said one of the men was conscious and breathing and the other man was not. Homicide investigators were requested to the scene.

ST. LOUIS – Police are investigating after a double shooting in St. Louis’ Lewis Place neighborhood.

Officers responded to Newberry Terrace and N. Taylor just after 10 a.m. Thursday for a shooting. Two men were found suffering from gunshot wounds.

Police said one of the men was conscious and breathing and the other man was not. Homicide investigators were requested to the scene.

Police confirmed they believe an automatic assault weapon was used in the shooting.

Hours after the shooting, Tony House was at Beckett Park with his young daughters. The park sits feet away from where the shots were fired.

"It's heartbreaking," House said. "I grew up in this neighborhood."

House said gun violence has been and issue in his neighborhood his whole life.

"I've had to dodge bullets that weren't meant for me," House said. "That's how this neighborhood is."

House said he won't let Thursday's incident keep him from spending time with his children in his neighborhood.

"Sometimes those elements can interfere with a good life," House said. "But I fear not."

The investigation is ongoing.
