Shooting in south St. Louis leaves 1 dead, suspect in custody

Police said the suspect turned himself in.

ST. LOUIS — A man was shot and killed early Thursday morning in south St. Louis.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the officers responded at about 1:30 a.m. Thursday to a shooting in the 4700 block of Goethe Avenue in the city's Princeton Heights neighborhood. There, officers found 36-year-old Derek Conway of St. Louis unconscious and not breathing after being shot multiple times in the chest.

Police said Conway was later pronounced dead at an area hospital.

A suspect, a 36-year-old man, was taken into custody after he called the police and turned himself in, police said.

The Homicide Division assumed the ongoing investigation.

Police said preliminary findings indicated the shooting may have been domestic-related, but the motive had not yet been confirmed.

The Bullet Related Injury Clinic (BRIC) is a community-based clinic in St. Louis that helps people heal after they have been injured by a bullet. The BRIC was established to help people who are discharged from the emergency department after being shot.
