Man arrested after 4-year-old boy shot, injured inside St. Louis County home

Police said the 4-year-old boy was inside his home with a man when the child was accidentally shot. It's not clear who was holding the gun.

SPANISH LAKE, Mo. — A 4-year-old is expected to survive after being shot inside a home Wednesday night in St. Louis County.

County police received a call at 11:32 p.m. that a child had arrived at an area hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound. Police described the injury as a graze wound to his arm.

The police investigation led officers to a home on the 11900 block of Rio Grande Drive in Spanish Lake.

Police said the 4-year-old boy was inside his home with a man when the child was accidentally shot. In a news release, St. Louis County police did not say who fired the weapon. No additional details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting were shared.

The man was arrested and released pending a warrant application.

St. Louis County police said the investigation “is very active at this time.” No other details about the incident were released.

This is the latest incident involving gun violence and a child in the St. Louis area.

In less than a month, nine children in the City of St. Louis ages 17 and under have been hurt or killed by gun violence, according to St. Louis police.
