ST. PETERS, Mo. — Two people are in custody after a homicide Monday evening in St. Peters, police said.

Jackson Pierce, 18, of St. Peters, was charged with one count each of second-degree murder, armed criminal action and tampering with physical evidence in the death of Dalton Coleman.

The St. Peters Police Department said officers responded Monday evening to the 300 block of Wilcott Square Drive after receiving information from "another party" about the homicide. Both were taken into custody without incident.

According to court documents, Pierce, Coleman and a teenage boy were inside the residence at the time of the incident. Pierce called a witness and said Coleman, 23, was acting erratically. The two collected their belongings, including a gun, and distanced themselves from Coleman in another room.

Pierce told investigators Coleman entered the room, attempted to strike him and a struggle ensued for the gun.

Pierce said he shot Coleman in the abdomen, but he did not fall. He continued to shoot until the gun was empty, hitting Coleman 14 times, court documents said. An autopsy found that Coleman had around 15 gunshot wounds, documents said.

Pierce and the teenage boy then attempted to clean the scene.

During a search of the home by St. Charles County SWAT, officers found Coleman wrapped up inside an air mattress with a plastic bag around his head.

Pierce will be transferred to St. Charles County Jail to be held on a $1 million bond.

The teenage boy was also taken to the St. Charles County Family Court for charges and will remain in custody.

The investigation is ongoing.
