Teen grazed by bullet during fight in north St. Louis County, 13-year-old charged

County police said a 13-year-old boy was arrested and charged with assault in connection to the shooting.

GLASGOW VILLAGE, Mo. — A 14-year-old boy was injured during a fight among several young people Wednesday night in north St. Louis County.

According to the St. Louis County Police Department, officers with the North County Precinct responded to a shooting at about 6:45 p.m. Wednesday in the 200 block of Midlothian Road, near Highland Elementary School.

Police said a 14-year-old suffered a gunshot graze wound during a fight. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

A 13-year-old boy was arrested and released to the St. Louis County Family Court on charges of second-degree assault, police said.

Neighbors are concerned about where a teenager got a gun after he shot a 14-year-old.

St. Louis County police said that's all a part of their investigation.

Yolanda Richie said she was a witness to the Wednesday evening shooting in the 200 block of Midlothian Road.

"Over a little fight! You know, just fist-fighting! You wasn't even fighting five minutes before you shooting," Richie said.

Richie and her husband were home when they heard nearly six gunshots right outside of their home.

The shooting happened five miles from the Jennings stabbing that left 14-year-old Justin Brooks dead and three miles from the Hazelwood fight that left 16-year-old Kaylee Gain in critical condition.

"Well by the time he [Richie's husband] said call the police then he says they were shooting. So I'm dialing 911 and I'm telling them what we are witnessing with the fight and then I heard the gunshots and they said a kid was shot," Richie said.

Richie has lived in the neighborhood for nine years and said the problem has been teens lingering after they get off the bus stop.

"They gather, they fight at the bus stops, it's a lot going on at the bus stops," Richie said.

Her solution is to have more police patrolling the bus stop and more involvement from the teen's parents.

But the question remains for neighbors where the child got the gun.

"They just hanging outside and they just getting into trouble and then when you have parents that don't supervise their kids what do you expect?" Richie said.
