Man fatally shot Friday during altercation in Velda City

Police said the shooting happened during an altercation between the victim and the shooter.

VELDA CITY, Mo. — Police are investigating a Friday night shooting that left an 18-year-old man dead. 

Velda City Police Department responded shortly after 5 p.m. to a call for a shooting in the 7000 block of Glenmore Avenue.

Officers arrived around 5:22 p.m. to find a man lying in the street with at least one gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The victim was identified Monday as Myyo Lanos, 18, of Velda City.

Around 5:45 p.m. Velda City police requested the assistance of St. Louis County Police Crimes Against Persons detectives to investigate the shooting.

An investigation revealed the man was shot during an altercation with another unidentified man, who then left the scene.
