David Simpson of Winfield killed in crash

We're hearing from those who knew a 9 year old Winfield boy killed in a car crash.

Winfield, MO (KSDK)- We're hearing from those who knew a 9 year old Winfield boy killed in a car crash.

Troopers say a drunk driver is to blame, but so far no one has been charged.

The Simpson family was driving on Highway 47 near Lindsey Road around 5:40 Wednesday morning when troopers say a pick-up crossed the center lineand hitSimpson's car head on.

David Simpson was air-lifted to Cardinal Glennon where he died a short time later.

David's parents and 8 year old sister Dana were also injured and were all transported to the hospital. His mom, Angela, is still there in serious condition.

Troopers say the driver of the truck may be charged with manslaughter, assault, and drunk driving.

David attended Winfield Intermediate School and was in the boy scouts.

"He was a good kid. It chokes me up to even talk about it right now. It's a shame someone 9 years old had to lose their life. I am so used to seeing him every day. Now I won't be able to see him," said Jesse Piechoinski, Simpson's neighbor.

Troopers say they are awaiting charges from the prosecuting attorney.
