Franklin County sheriff asks residents to help in search for Margaret Unger

The Franklin County Sheriff's Department will have a news conference about the search for Margaret Unger, 64, this morning.

KSDK -- Mine shafts, caves and the chilly wet weather are just a few things slowing down rescue crews in St. Clair County.Margaret Unger, 64, has been missing for eight days.On Tuesday, Franklin County Sheriff Gary Toelke asked area residents to check barns, sheds and other buildings on their property.Sheriff Toelke fears Unger has taken refuge and is too confused to get help. Unger suffers from a mental illness and has been off her medication since she went missing. The sheriff says it's likely without her medication, Unger will be afraid of volunteers and other rescuers, making the search even more difficult.More than 100 volunteers and canines have searched the woods near Unger's home, but have found no signs of the missing woman.Deputies believe Unger is off her medication and may be disoriented. They have asked people who live near St. Clair to search their residences, barns and caves for any signs for Unger./>
