Foul play not suspected in deaths of 2 people found inside Ballwin home, medical examiner says

Police said the pair was found dead in a home on the 400 block of Sunnyslope Drive.

BALLWIN, Mo. — Two bodies in "advanced stages of decomposition" were found Tuesday in a Ballwin home after a concerned mail carrier called police, according to the St. Louis County Medical Examiner.

The bodies were found on the 400 block of Sunnyslope Drive, according to Ballwin Police Department spokesperson Mark Reckert. Reckert said a mail carrier noticed the home's mailbox was stuffed full and called police around 3 p.m. to check the welfare of the people who live there.

The bodies were in a state of decomposition that made it impossible to visually identify them, the medical examiner's office said. The cause of their death and how long the bodies were there is unknown, but the examiner doesn't believe foul play is involved.

"At this point in time, all I can say is that the deaths do not appear to be suspicious in nature, and there’s no trauma to either one," Chief Medicolegal Death Investigator Michael Tarticchio. "We will be confirming the identities of the decedents by scientific means, which could take some time. I’m hoping to have them confirmed by early next week. The results of the autopsies are pending further forensic testing."

There were several Ballwin police cars at the home when 5 On Your Side crews arrived first on the scene just shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The Metro West Fire Department was there briefly about 45 minutes later.

Police were still waiting for more information from the autopsy results.
