AFFTON, Mo. — An Affton community is on edge after three men beat an elderly man and robbed him at gunpoint.

It happened in the Reavis Garden Subdivision Thursday morning.

"It kind makes me be a little bit more cautious," said neighbor Sandra McGuire.

It's been a year and half since McGuire moved into her new home in Affton. Despite a few scares in her neighborhood when it comes to crime, she said she has felt pretty safe in her community.

"We hope that god watches over all of us and it doesn't happen to anyone," she said.

McGuire said she grew nervous when she heard about the attack Thursday morning. The assault and armed robbery took place just feet away from her home.

"It makes me pretty nervous especially I thought I felt more safe on the main drag that someone wouldn't try something like this obviously they did," McGuire said.

St. Louis County Police told 5 On Your Side around 5:15 a.m. Thursday several men robbed a man at gunpoint at the corner of Jeffleigh Lane and Reavis Barracks Road.

5 On Your Side spoke to the victim's daughter off camera. She told us her father was heading into work early that morning when several cars blocked him from leaving the Reavis Garden Subdivision.

She said three men got out of their cars and pistol-whipped her father several times before taking off with his wallet and other personal items.

"It’s kind of surprising. You wonder what’s going through their mind, what had happened in their life," McGuire said.

McGuire said she saw the aftermath immediately after police arrived at the scene. She said police surrounded the victim and drove through the neighborhood looking for the thieves.

"I couldn't get out the subdivision because there about six St. Louis county police officers there and they told me I had to back up and find another way out," McGuire said.

Investigators said the thieves drove away. There have been no arrests. Meanwhile, paramedics treated the victim at the hospital and then released him.
