ST. LOUIS — The Central West End restaurant that chef and owner John Perkins rebranded last fall to focus on fried chicken has shut down.

Sunday Best, which opened in August in the 4101 Laclede Ave. space previously occupied by Juniper, "is no more," according to a Facebook post Friday afternoon.

"We are closed. For good," continued the post, which was made before dinner service would have begun.

"So this is one of those days that you hope never happens. You hope it never comes." the post reads. Perkins wrote that it reminded him of the old Carl Sandburg poem "Mag," "the feeling when you wish you'd never started the thing I have to say goodbye too [sic]."

"It has been apparent for some time that things needed to change, most likely a different venue," he said in Friday's post.
