Car hits 3 construction workers Monday night on New Halls Ferry Road

The car was traveling through a closed construction zone in Ferguson when it struck three workers.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — Three construction workers were struck when a car drove through a closed construction zone Monday night on New Halls Ferry Road in Ferguson.

According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2005 Ford Focus was traveling northbound on New Halls Ferry Road when it went through a closed construction zone at about 10:30 p.m. near Pershall Road and Interstate 270. The car struck three contracted workers, leaving two of them with moderate injuries and another with serious injuries. Both were taken to an area hospital for treatment.

At the time of the crash, an emergency vehicle was present and the workers were all wearing safety vests and high-visibility ankle bands, according to MSHP.

The driver, a 33-year-old St. Louis man, was uninjured in the crash. A spokesman for the highway patrol said the driver was arrested on suspicion of a DUI.
