CREVE COEUR, Mo. — An intoxicated driver hit a police car in Creve Coeur early Saturday morning, according to the city's police department.

Officers were investigating a single-car crash when another car rear-ended their fully marked patrol car around 12:30 a.m., the department said. The crash happened in the southbound lane of I-270 south of Ladue Road.

The officers were not in the car at the time of the crash.

The unidentified driver was a man in his 30s who was intoxicated at the time of the incident, police said.

Officers arrested both drivers, the one from the original crash and the intoxicated driver who totaled their car, for driving while intoxicated.

“Impaired driving accounts for 21% of the traffic fatalities in Missouri, and we are lucky these two crashes did not end in tragedy," Lt. Jonathan McIntosh said. "We are asking motorists; please, use a designated driver, call a cab, or use ride-sharing - just don’t drive impaired.”

The intoxicated driver suffered minor injuries and was treated by EMS on the scene.

No other injuries were reported.

The crashes are under investigation by Creve Coeur Police Department.
