Teen injured in north St. Louis County fight in stable condition, moved out of ICU

"She still has an incredibly long journey ahead of her but she is strong," a GoFundMe update said in part.

HAZELWOOD, Mo. — Kaylee Gain, the 16-year-old girl who was critically injured in a fight near Hazelwood East High School, has been moved out of the intensive care unit and is in stable condition, her mother said.

The update was posted by Kaylee's mother on Friday on the family's GoFundMe page.

"We are so happy and blessed to announce that Kaylee is now stable, breathing on her own, and was moved out of the ICU. She still has an incredibly long journey ahead of her but she is strong," the update said in part.

Gain was critically injured and hospitalized following a fight that unfolded on March 8 at the intersection of Norgate and Claudine drives near campus, according to the St. Louis County Police Department.

A viral video shows a girl slam Gain's head into the ground over and over again.

The department said on March 9, a 15-year-old suspect was arrested and is currently being held by St. Louis County Family Court on assault charges. The identity of the suspect will not be disclosed because they are a minor.

Her mother said the family will continue to update the GoFundMe as she recovers and thanks everyone for their support.
