Family: Kirkwood grandmother murdered one year after grandson’s murder

The victim's family believes the homicide is directly related to the homicide of another family member, which occurred in St. Louis over a year ago.

KIRKWOOD, Mo. – An investigation is underway after a person was found dead inside of a Kirkwood home Wednesday morning.

Family members said the victim was Karen Arnold, a grandmother who had already been touched by gun violence.

Police responded to a home in the 1200 block of Rockridge Place around 8:30 a.m. where a person was found in the front room of their home dead.

The Townhomes at Stonecrest are located behind a popular shopping area.

Police have not identified the victim, but family members identified her as Karen Arnold. The victim’s family believes the homicide is directly related to the homicide of another family member, which occurred in St. Louis more than a year ago.

Her grandson Shelbyon Polk was killed on Nov. 23, 2017, in a vacant yard in St. Louis. Her grandson’s father Shelby Polk III was killed in Soulard on July 19, 2015. He was found shot after his car crashed into a police vehicle. Shelby Polk III’s father Shelby Polk Jr. was shot in the chest and killed in the 3800 block of North Market in 2007. None of those homicides have been solved.

Police are investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call Kirkwood police at 314-822-5858 and speak with the Detective Bureau.

Police have not said if they have anyone in custody.
