ST. LOUIS — An 18-year-old man is facing charges after police said he shot and critically injured another man who he'd admitted smoking marijuana and handling guns with in north St. Louis.

Prosecutors on Thursday, Feb. 15 charged Timothy Lewis, 18, with one felony count each of second-degree assault and armed criminal action and ordered he be held without bond.

According to a probable cause statement from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, Lewis and the victim, 18-year-old Justin Moore, were hanging out Wednesday inside Lewis' home. While the two were smoking marijuana and handling guns, a gun went off and struck Moore in the forehead.

Officers responded just before 8 p.m. to Lewis' home located in the 5900 block of Ferris Avenue in north St. Louis, and upon arrival requested the department's Homicide Division to investigate further due to the severity of Moore's injury. In an interview with homicide detectives, Lewis admitted to shooting the victim while handling the gun.

Police found Moore unconscious and not breathing with a gunshot wound to his head.

Moore was pronounced dead at an area hospital on Friday, Feb. 16.
