Morning Rush | Illinois' ratification, a stolen medallion, and Goodman's statement

Three cars and one semi-truck collided... with a man standing in both the north and southbound lanes of Interstate 55 in south St. Louis late Wednesday night. The man, who was pronounced dead, was first hit by a car in the southbound lanes, then hopped over the median to be struck by two other cars and the semi in the northbound lanes. The highway was shut down for several hours as investigators reworked the gruesome scene.

Illinois ratified the Equal Rights Amendment... and they were only the 37th state to do so. Wednesday, the Illinois House voted 72-45 in favor of the amendment, which guarantees equal rights for all citizens regardless of sex. The initial deadline for ratification was set for 1982, and they were one of only 15 states to not ratify the amendment before then. Interestingly, Missouri ratified the amendment in 1975, but in only one house of legislature.

Her mother's Holocaust medallion was stolen... right off a gravesite in University City. Fryda Bierman, a Holocaust survivor, passed away 12 years ago, buried with the medallion she requested shortly before her passing. But, when her daughter noticed it missing recently, she realized the likelihood of finding the original medallion would be slim. Still, the cemetery Bierman is buried at is offering to replace it while the family continues their search.
